Croatia Crikvenica Travel Tourism Guide - There are remains of several prehistoric villages on the hills that surround Crikvenica. There was once a settlement called Ad Turnes, which was situated near the river Dubracine that was situated on the Roman road between Italy and Dalmatia. In 400 A.D the fortress of Kotar was built also in the hills. The town of Crikvenica has been here for 600 years and is a popular destination for tourists from central Europe.

The first large hotel was built in Crikvenica in 1895 and was called Theropia. Crikvenica is popular destination for tourists because of the local mild and relaxing climate. Visitors have been coming to the resort for many years for health reasons. There are several excursions available to nearby islands and if you like walking or cycling then there are a number of trails available.

There is an aquarium in Crikvenica, which is well worth a visit for the Adriatic flora and fauna. A famous miniaturist Jurej Julije was educated in a monastery here in Crikvenica.

Crikvenica is in the Kvarner bay, about thirty three kilometers away from Rijeka. The town of Crikvenica is classed as a Riviera and comprises of several smaller tourist resorts: Selce, Crikvenica, Dramalj and Sadranovo. The town spreads out over a distance of twenty eight square kilometers and was named after the church of a Pauline monastery that was erected by Nikola Frankopan in 1412.
