Croatia Kvarner Bay Travel Tourism Guide - Kvarner Bay is located in the north Adriatic Sea, between the northern Croatian coast and the Istrian coastline. It has an area of 3300 square kilometers. The bay is also known as the Kvarner Gulf. Kvarner Bay's main islands are: Losinj Island, Rab Island, Pag Island, Cres Island and Krk Island. The main part of Kvarner Bay is in between the main land and the island of Cres and Island of Krk. There is a smaller body of water called Kvarneric that is also known as Mali Kvarner which translates to little Kvarner.

The city of Rijeka is in the north of the bay. Rijeka has Croatia’s largest sea port which is capable of handling large tankers because of the deep sea bed. This city is the economic and administrative centre of the region. The region’s main airport is in Rijeka. The main tourist centre within Kvarner Bay is Opatija. Opatija has been popular with the tourists for many years and is on the eastern coast.

Kvarner’s Islands: Krk Island is the largest and most developed, Rab Island has a sunny climate, Cres is very popular with naturalists, Losinj is covered in pine woods and has several bays with beaches, Pag has bare cliffs and green meadows.

Kvarner Bay has a warm Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters. The bay has an average temperature of fourteen degrees Celsius. Kvarner bay is protected by the mountain range, which runs from Mount Vaka to Gorski Kotar.
