Croatia Omis Travel Tourism Guide - Near the large Croatian city of Split you will find the small seaport town of Omis. On Croatia's Adriatic Coast, this Mediterranean city is situated at the mouth of the Cetina river. This river figured prominently in Omis history as a stronghold for Corsairs, pirates of the Adriatic and Mediterranean seas. Their small vessels were built to attack fast and return quickly to the mouth of the Cetina and safe harbor. The larger ships that would pursue the Corsairs could not make it into the Cetina, and would have to break off their pursuit.

Having given up it's plundering ways, the economy of Omis is now based on farming, fishing, and, of course, tourism.

The Riviera section of Omis stretches for more than ten miles along a beautiful coastline, which feature both sandy and pebble beaches, protected coves and bays, and the crystal blue waters of the Adriatic.

As a seashore town, paragliding, wind surfing, beach volleyball scuba diving are available nearly year round.
The Cetina river is itself a tourist attraction, with many spectacular waterfalls and secluded nooks. Water activity such as kayaking and white water rafting are also popular.

Radmanove Mlinice, a well known picnic area along the banks of the Cetina, is famous fresh trout and fresh baked bread, prepared by local citizens.

The deep canyon cut by the Cetina is also a famous gathering place for free climbing enthusiasts. The around Omis has more than 40 established climbing, ranging from easy to expert, most less than ten miles from the city and easily accessible from the roads. This means more time spent climbing and less time getting to the climb. Add to that the spectacular and varied views, and you have a free climber's paradise.
