Croatia Tucepi Travel Tourism Guide - There has been a settlement here for over four thousand years and the Illyrians were the first to make their home here settling on the hilltops and burying their dead in tumuli. A necropolis has been found that dates from the first century A.D. The Bosnians ruled the area around Tucepi and this is proved by the Charter of Kresevo, which includes the present name for the town in this document that dates from 1434, and the name is thought to mean a village of the source. From the fifteenth to the sixteenth century the area was ruled by the Turks.

There are a number of fortification type buildings that date from the eighteenth century where the local people were defending their town during the Turkish-Venetian wars. The church of Saint George was built around the end of the thirteenth century and it is preserved as a Romanesque and Gothic structure. The church was renovated in 1992.

There are many Baroque villas built around the local area beside the sea that date from the eighteenth century and were constructed for noble families of that time. Furniture from a Christian church that dates from the fifth and sixth century has been recently excavated in the town.

Tucepi is situated in the Split-Dalmatia County along the Adriatic coast and is part of the Makarska Riviera. The town has a population of 1800 and the main occupations of the inhabitants are farming and tourism. There is a popular marina, which has seventy berths.
The town has always been a popular tourist destination for European travelers. The Biokovo Mountain and National Park is nearby where you can enjoy hiking and cycling. The area is rich in natural springs and there are plenty of terraced gardens and vineyards as well as olive groves. The town of Tucepi is situated on four miles of fine sandy and pebbly shoreline.
