Croatia Gospic Travel Tourism Guide - Gospic is the administrative centre of the Lika-Senj County. Currently the town is not a popular destination with tourists so it offers a quiet retreat for visitors. The town used to be very popular with tourists over a century ago. Gospic is at an elevation of 656 meters and was first mentioned in historical records in 1692. The town became established in the seventeenth century as the Lika headquarters of the military. The name Gospic means Lady.

Gospic is located on the Lika River on a drained karst field plateau. The town was built around two ottoman forts at the meeting point of three rivers, the Lika, Novcica, and Bogdenica. The oldest tennis club was founded in 1900. There are two parks close to the town of Gospic, Jasikovac, and Vujnovica Brdo.
Professor Dragutin Franic wrote a book in 1910 predicting the importance of tourism in Gospic in the future years to come.

Hunting and homemade products are very enticing to potential tourists. The Plitvice Lakes are also nearby that is the oldest and largest national park in Croatia. Baske Ostarije is also close by. Good fishing can be found in the river Novcica. The museum of Lika was opened in 1958 and contains archaeological, ethnographic, historical and art collections. There is a restored typical Lika house within the museum. Gospic has a population of 13,000. There is a statue of a girl called Marta in the town centre that was erected in honour of the first water system, founded in 1894.
