Croatia Samobor Travel Tourism Guide - Samobor is a city in the county of Zagreb and it has a population of 36206. The city is located in the valley of the Sava River and is west of Zagreb. Samobor is on the southern slopes of the Samoborsko Gorge at a height of 168 meters.

Samobor has been a free royal town since the year of 1242 and is one of the earliest tourist resorts in the region, popular since 1810. The town is orientated towards hunters, anglers and hikers.

The composer Franz Liszt visited Samobor in 1846. The Samobor carnival has been held here every year for over 170 years now.

One of the chief industries of the local inhabitants is crystal carving. Others include farming, crafts, tourism and glass.

Several of the town’s parks are protected as horticultural monuments. There is a large forest park nearby. The most popular activity in the area is walking and there are several well marked walking routes. There are many mountain lodges around Samobor providing accommodation for travelers. If you like hunting there are good hunting grounds nearby or if you prefer angling you can fish on the Gradna, Slapnica and the Bregana.
