Numerous excursions take you around the island to see the beautiful rock sides and also the highest mountain on Brac. The charming architecture will enlighten you as you become totally engulfed in the amazing white stone structures.

The oldest village on the Island of Brac is Skrip which exists back to the pre-Roman time. The location of Brac is in the Adriatic Sea and is the third largest island on the sea. Separation from the mainland is by way of the Brac Channel and from Hvar by the Hvar channel. It is separated from Solta by the Split Gate as it is called.

On side of the island is limestone which is steep and rocky and the rest of the island is sandy and lower. The cervices and gullies have been formed over the years as well as coves and valleys. There are twenty-three villages on the island of Brac.

The warm climate attracts tourist during the summer month when the weather is balmy and the breeze is refreshing. The winter months see more rain fall than the summer months. During the summer months the coast of the Adriatic Sea is so blue that swimmers feel an invitation to swim.
The road from Bol to Golden Cape on the island of Brac is marble flagstone. The length is lined with Aleppo pine trees that provide a cooling shade during the hot summer days. Bol has become a popular tourist attraction and has developed outward from its original centre. The island of Brac is the most visited island in Croatia. The beauty of the island is surrounded by the Adriatic Sea and accommodations have been erected to provide beautiful views of the deep blue sea.

The northern part of Brac has beaches Vela Luka, Supetar and Lovercino and the southern side of Brac has the beautiful beach of Zlatni Rat on Bol. Pucisca is located in a inlet next to Supetar. The island has so many little elegant villages; Skrip, Murvica and Blaca are just some of the villages accessible by foot travel.

The Island of Brac has a culture that centers itself on tourists and agriculture along with fishing. The White House in Washington, D.C. was built with the white stone that comes from the Island of Brac. History sees Brac being famous for the goats that roam the island. The stone has also been used by the Romans to build graves and palaces as well as entire cities.

The island of Brac has history dating back to the 4th century. Earlier civilization has dated back to the Stone Age, but has never been proven that this is correct. The life of Brac was more dynamic after the 7th century when the Croats inhabited the island. The white stone drew many to the island in search of the stone to build cities and empires. The Diocletian Palace was built from the white stone.

The island was ruled by the Republic of Venice for almost four hundred years. The 19th century found the island so populated that the Austrian Habsburg constructed roads to connect the villages. Brac was known now for its wine which had been exported around the European countries.

The 20th century brought a hard time for Brac as their vineyards were being destroyed by a disease and caused villagers to leave the island. The island of Brac became a part of the free Republic of Croatia in 1991. Because of the different heritages of Brac there are three areas of interest, The Dominican Monastery in Bol, The Chapel of Saint Martin in Bobovisca and The Chapels of Dol. The Dominican has a museum with artifacts from the beginning of the island of Brac. The Chapel of Saint Martin bears a stone relief of the great Nikola the Florentine. It presents the Madonna and Child. The Chapels of Dol find old tombs belonging to the Croatian in the 9th and 10th centuries.
