Croatia Hvar Island Travel Tourism Guide - The Mediterranean is a perfect location for the beautiful Island of Hvar. The beautiful skies and sunsets are accented by untouched godly creations that have been formed over thousands of years. The Hvar Channel separates the island of Brac from Hvar. The Vis Channel separates Hvar from Vis while the Korcula Channel separates Hvar from Korcula. The Neretva Channel separates Hvar from Peljesac.

Because of the location of the Island of Hvar, it provides more hours of sun and has about 2700 hours of isolation a year. The Mediterranean location has seen snow once in the last twenty years and for the most part, winters are mild and still remain warmer than any other location. This accounts for the popular fishing tourism and the tasteful wines that are produced on the Island of Hvar yearly.

The highest point on the Island of Hvar is at 628 m and is located at Saint Nicolas. The total population is 12,000 people who live and work on the island. The location is ideal for vegetation and fishing. Being surrounded by sea water on both sides has bought many visitors to the location for warmth and glowing beauty provided by a Mediterranean sun.
The port of Hvar is nestled between the Paldeni Islands in the south and a low crest in the north. Bus lines provide transportation through out the entire Island of Hvar. The local and international ferry lines can connect the island with the town of Split, having access to these ferries that are provided with or without a vehicle transport has made tourism on the islands accessible by everyone.

The location is famous for its great climate with only a few days of rain. This allows the hotels to offer a 50% room deduction on a rain day. Because of the location this is a rare occurrence and is not done very often.

The 7th century walls surrounding the beautifully designed palaces on the island have become a popular attraction for many visitors around the world. The island is situated directly in the middle of the main sea way. The island has a magnetic pull to all who have been to the Island of Hvar and can’t seem to stay away. The beautiful island has visitors returning many times to see the enhanced bays and caves that Hvar has been famous for.

Some of the famous people from the island are an official from the Island of Hvar, Ivan Vucetic, who perfected the fingertip method of identification. The there is the author who wrote the book about the British civil wars, Ivan Franc Biundovic. The development of the island has been accredited to Niko Dubokovic Nadalini, who worked with the characteristics and traditions of the island in the sustainable development.

Pharos was the original name given to the island which was Greek. The island lighthouse provided a lighted path to the island and was known to be inhabited by pirates. Then the Roman rulers changed the name to Pharia and then changed it to Fara. When the Croats changed the name to Hvar around the middle ages it was still under Roman rule, but the Greek influence was strong enough to change the name again to Quarra. The Italians call the island Lesina which was the name until the turn of the 19th century.

In 1903 the first hotel was opened on the Island of Hvar. The Empress Elisabeth was a beautifully designed building of its time. The hotel has remained a very popular tourist attraction. The culture and heritage of the islands has seen the elegant cathedrals and fortresses that have also become a visual tourist attraction through out the years.

The beautiful colors and climate offered by the Island of Hvar has made this a great destination in the Mediterranean. The ancient buildings that have been standing for centuries offer a wealth of knowledge and history. The ideal climate provides a vast array of sightseeing adventures and some salt water fishing off the beautiful Island of Hvar. With the many hours of sunlight available daily, the two hour walk to the outstanding vineyards will allow plenty of time for the return trip.
