Croatia Lastovo Island Travel Tourism Guide - Lastovo Island is located on the south part of Dalmatia and provides a beautifully clean sea with green forests and vineyards. The untouched natural beauty of the island invites tourist with it warm and dry climate that warms the sea water to a temperature of 80 degrees. The underwater adventures will amaze anyone wanting to see the underwater life forms.

The Island of Lastovo is mainly 70% forest, the Aleppo pines and Holm Oaks are a home to many hawks and falcons. The sea provides a beautiful array of octopus and lobster. The underwater attractions are enhanced by the warm and dry climate during the summer. The winter months are mild and moist. The water temperatures are like swimming in a spa, with a temperature of about 80 degrees.

The port located by Ubli is the only access to the island by way of ferry. The island is surrounded by a deep sea all around with sleep slopes to the coastline. The island is located south of Korcula and remains remotely inhabited. The size of the island is about six miles long and 3 mile wide. The island is rich in hills and karstic fields containing quartz sand and red soil. The colors of the island are numerous during the so called winter months which still provide a nice calm climate.
Zaklopatica and Skrivena Luka are two beautiful bays on the island of Lastovo. Other villages are Lucica, Ubli, Saint Miovil and Ubli along with the town of Lastovo. The location of Lastovo sits among the Dinaric fault in a Upper Jurassic form with the highest level being on Hum. The island is famous for its olive and wine orchards. The beautiful scenery of Lastovo see you standing on a hill overlooking the wonderful bays that for the most part are secluded the view of ships on the sea.

The 15th century and the 16th century brings with it the architecture with numerous churches that show the island’s Roman Catholic tradition. The island is noted for the Poklade, which to Americans would be considered a carnival. The tourism is the largest part of the island source of revenue.

There is a lighthouse on Lastovo that was built in 1839 and is situated on the southern tip of the island. This is oldest lighthouse of all the islands in Croatia. The houses on the island represent a Renaissance look which has set a look for other houses that were built after the 16th century. The trade mark of these houses is the broad terraces which overlooks the village.

The first signs of life on the island of Lastovo dates back to the Neolithic Age. The cave of Raca shows signs of human occupancy. It is believed that the island was inhabited by Illyrians. The outbreak of vampire behavior was reported last on the island of Lastovo and saw a number of vampire hunters seeking revenge in the Middle Ages.

Lastovo let the township of Dubrovnik join with them and Dubrovnik took an oath that they would let Lastovo retain their ancient customs in the 13th century. When King Louis I awarded Dubrovnik power over Lastovo in 1358 it ended the oath that was taken. This was when the island became a battle field between Dubrovnik and Lastovo over the ancient customs that Dubrovnik tried to change.

Lastovo has since become an archeological paradise with primary focus on the old caves on the island. It has been said that the island shows more history than ever expected. The historical research will help the island with facts of Lastovo and surrounding villages.

Subject: Boat Rental in Lastovo

Good afternoon,

I would like to know if it is possible to rent a really small boat in Lastovo (I have the driving license if it is required and I do not need a skipper).

If it is possible, I would like to know the price per day and per one week.
