Croatia Premuda Island Travel Tourism Guide - Premuda Island is west of Dugi Otok, southwest of Silba, northwest of Skarda and it is the last island before the Italian coastline. Premuda Island, which is in the north Dalmatian archipelago, is covered with machia and dense vegetation. The island is 8.7 square kilometers and has fifty inhabitants in the wintertime. The coast descends abruptly to the sea in some spots and otherwise is steep and inaccessible.

The island has a small ferry port called Krijal that was constructed in 2005. No cars are allowed onto Premuda. There is only one village, which is named after the island, Premuda. The main of occupations of the island’s inhabitants are sheep breeding, wine, olive growing and tourism.

The sea around Premuda Island is extremely popular with divers. The ‘katedrala’, in the bay of Siroka, is a system of connected caves and has beautiful light rays inside coming through the porous rocks. Experienced divers can explore the Austro-Hungarian battleship Szent Istvan, which was torpedoed by the Italians MAS.15 on the 10th of June 1918. The ship was one of the four dreadnoughts and it immediately rolled over and sank taking 89 of her crew.
