Croatia Lovran Travel Tourism Guide - Lovran was first mentioned in the seventh century under the name of Lauriana after the laurel bushes that grow here. In the Middle Ages Lovran was a shipbuilding center but after Pula and Rijeka became developed, the town lost its significance. The Croatian medieval community here was owned by the counts of Pazin in 1275. It was twice set on fire in 1599 and 1614. In the nineteenth century Lovran became a resort for the Austro Hungarian nobility. In 1905 the town became a climatic sanatorium and pre world war two, it was popular during the winter months but after the war, was more so during the summer.

One of the parish churches has medieval frescoes and Glagolitic inscriptions. The old core, has a medieval city plan, is situated on the coast and the newer part was built on the slopes of Gonca hill. There are several Baroque houses, a medieval city tower and a church with a Romanesque bell tower. The old part of the city is well preserved with defensive walls and bastions.

Lovran is a town in Istria and it is situated on the western coast of the Kvarner Bay as part of the Liburnian Riviera. The town has a population of three thousand two hundred and it is one of the oldest towns on the eastern shore of the Istrian peninsula. Lovran has two public beaches and it is surrounded by forests of sweet chestnut and laurel bushes.
The water supply comes from Mount Ucka. There is a twelve kilometer coastal footpath that links the places along the Riviera. This was constructed in 1885 and completed in 1889. There are twenty five mountaineering trails and nine mountain biking routes. The Ucka Nature Park stretches inland from Lovran.
