Croatia Motovun Travel Tourism Guide - Motovun is a beautiful medieval town in the central part of Istria and it is a town in the southern part of the Mirna valley. It is at an elevation of 277 meters. The old part of Motovun is surrounded by walls that date from the thirteenth and fourteenth century.

 

There are several Romanesque and Gothic houses. The church has also has a thirteenth and fourteenth century bell tower. The Renaissance castle palace has fourteenth to nineteenth century annexes. A cattle fair is held in the Kanal part of the town every month and has done since 1903.

The main occupations of the 531 inhabitants are farming, wine production and livestock breeding. The nearby Motovun forest has truffles and the vineyards produce wines such as Motovun terrana, pinat and malmsey.

 

Writer Vladimir Nazor wrote a novel about a well tempered pleasant giant that lived in the Motovun forest. The novel is called Veli Joze. In the town there is a contemporary art gallery. Since 1999 the town has held the International Motovun festival.
