Croatia National Park Plitvice Travel Tourism Guide - The beautiful turquoise colored lakes invite you to sit and be amazed at the beauty that surrounds the park as one of the most famous parks in Croatian history. The waterfalls cascade through the park filling the air with tranquil and soothing environment. The singing birds and wildlife sounds have an effect of being in the wild, but perfectly save and secure. Sitting on top of a slope and looking out over the park has a colorful array of warm.

The National Park Plitvice was founded in 1949 and consists of a wooded area with mountains with beautiful lake with very crystal blue waters. Rivers and streams keep the lakes filled and they are all connected by waterfalls and cascades. The lakes lie between the mountains of Mala Kapela, Medvedak and Licka Pljesevica. The dolomite and limestone make up the lake basin along with karastic rock.

Lakes are separated by the natural dams of travertine. The moss and algae along with plants form dams by forming travertine barriers by encrusting on top of each over the years. The trees that grow in the park are mostly fir, beech and spruce. Because of the different soils types in the park plant life is existent in a wide variety.

Animals and birds find the park a perfect habitat. The brown bear, wild cat, eagle owl and the wolf and many more species are dominate in the National Park Plitvice. There are many species of birds that have also been found to breed there as well. The lakes are frozen during the months of December and January, which does not affect the fish and crabs that live there. Walking and hiking in the park is the best way to see all the beautiful wildlife and vegetation.
The 19th century was the start of tourist attractions and sees visitors all year long. The first hotel build there was erected in 1896. The park was nationalized by the Yugoslavians in 1949. The natural beauty with the production of travertine is untouched and remains through biological and chemical action.

In 1979 the park was added to the register of the UNESCO Natural Heritage. Because of the wildlife and vegetation visitors must leave there cars and travel through the park on the train and by boat to cross the lakes. This is a way to keep the environment free and natural.

There are twenty caves in the park which four of them have been given pet names as well as an original name. Golubinjaca, which is the Pidgeon cave and Supljara, which is the Empty cave then Mracnjaca, which is the Dark cave and Velika penina, which is called the Great cave.

With the last war the park still kept its beauty, but some of the buildings were used as barracks and did sustain some damage. The damage was repaired and there are still historical buildings to visit when you are at the park. The land value is priceless and people of National Park Plitvice keep the area natural and free of agriculture and only thrive on tourism.
