Croatia Papuk Nature Park Travel Tourism Guide - The nature park has three protected objects and natural formations. The first is the Jankovac forest park; this was dedicated by the earl Josip Jankovic. He was buried in a cave above the lake according to his wishes. In the forest are beech trees, streams and clean springs. The second is Rupnica, which is a geological monument of a four sided symmetrical pillar. It is made up of volcanic rocks and is the only phenomena in Croatia. It was proclaimed as a geological monument on the fourteenth of October in 1948. The third is Sekulinacke planine; this is a forest reservation comprising of virgin forest such as beech and fir trees. This reservation is hard to approach and you need a guide to take you there. It was protected in 1966.
 

Papuk Nature Park was inhabited during the Iron Age by warrior tribes. Important sites of the Iron Age Halstatt culture have been found near the village of Kaptol. These include fourteen burial mounds, which have been excavated between 1965 and 1971. The necropolises are currently being explored. Some middle aged fortification buildings can be found within the park. The most preserved fortified town of Ruzica is nearby.

Papuk Nature Park includes a mountain that is situated in Slavonia in the north eastern part of Croatia. It is the only mountain in the area and the highest peak is Papuk that stands at 953 meters. The nature park was proclaimed on April the 23rd in 1999 and it is situated in two counties: Pozega-Slavonia and Virovitica-Podravina.
The area is popular with walkers and hikers, and has been since the nineteenth century when a local nobleman decided he wanted to create a nature park around the lake of Jankovac. There are plenty of opportunities for walking, mountain biking and free climbing within the park.
Papuk has several nature springs called Pakra, Karasica and Cadavica. The Toplice thermal spring is nearby. The southern slopes of the mountain are covered in vineyards.

1500 species of flora including the Winter Aconite and Christmas Holly can be found within the nature park. Fauna wise there are deer, boar, foxes and pine martens here. The bears, wolves and lynxes have died out. You may be lucky enough to see a Golden Oriele.
