Croatia Telascica Nature Park Travel Tourism Guide - Telascica Nature Park is a large bay on the south part of the Dugi Otok Island and it is a natural extension of the Kornati Islands. The area was proclaimed as a nature park in 1988 but was protected in 1980. There are a total of thirteen isles and islets within the designated area.

Three types of basic phenomena can be found in Telascica Nature Park: the Mir salt lake was formed when a karst depression became filled up with the sea and has a depth of ten meters, the Telascica bay has a coastal length of 68,78 kilometers, and the cliffs on the open sea side of the Telascica bay are known as the stene, the stene also includes the summit of Grpascak at an elevation of 161 meters, which offers great views over the bay. Bottle nosed dolphins can be observed under the stene cliffs. The area resembles three lakes that are divided by noticeable openings. These three coves are actually three karst sinkholes that have over time become filled by the sea.

The area has been inhabited since the ancient times and there is evidence from this such as the roman remains in Mala Proverso. There are also numerous pre-Romanesque churches within the nature park too. The oldest document about the fishing trade in Croatia dates from the tenth century and shows that the fishing trade actually began on these coasts. In the tenth century Telascica was known as Vallis maior sancti Victoris and then the nature park was called Tilagus in the middle ages.
The northern coast of the nature park is bare but the southern part has Aleppo pine forests, Holly Oak woods, olive and fig trees. There is also numerous low Mediterranean vegetation and scrub. There is over three hundred different species of flora and fauna that have been recorded within the nature park. This includes eight species of bats that dwell in dark areas.

There are not many mammals in the park and the few include the house mouse, rat, common vole and stone marten. Mouflons have recently been introduced to the island. Seventy nine different types of birds have been registered as seen in the Telascica Nature Park and some of these are the peregrine falcon and the eleonora’s falcon. The Eurasian eagle owl can also be seen here too. Other animals include two species of frog and twelve different types of reptiles. There are plenty of opportunities to dive in the waters within the Telascica Nature Park.
