Croatia Ucka Nature Park Travel Tourism Guide - Ucka is a mountain massif in eastern Istria, Istria is the largest peninsular in Croatia. The highest peak is Vojak at 1401 meters high. The massif is twenty kilometers long and extends from Poklon pass to the bay of Plomin. Ucka national Park is 160 square kilometers and was designated as a Nature Park in 1999. There is a five-kilometer tunnel between Kvarner and Istria.

The area has been continuously inhabited since twelfth century BC in the Neolithic times. You can see a number of “dvori” in the countryside, which used to be summer shelters for local shepherds and their sheep.

There is abundant vegetation in the nature park consisting of Mediterranean vegetation on the coastal areas and oak or chestnut forests elsewhere. Agriculture and cattle are the main activities of the local people here. There is a high rainfall in this area due to the warm air coming from the Adriatic Sea.

There are beautiful panoramas of the gulf of Kvarner Bay and on the western side of the Nature Park you can see the Istria peninsula or on clear days the Alps. There is an observatory that resembles a tower on the peak of Vojak and it offers 360-degree views.
There are 27 recorded species of mammals in the park including snow voles and brown bears. The Golden Eagle nests here and you can see the Griffon Vulture landing on the cliffs. The endemic Ucka Bellflower only grows in this area.

It is well worth visiting the Vela Daga canyon, which is a geomorphologic nature monument, formed by deposits of limestone and subsequent tectonic cracks. There are many fossils in the screes in the canyon. It is possible to rock climb here in the canyon on the limestone towers.

There are approximately 170 karst pits and caves in Ucka Nature Park that contain cave ornaments as well as underground fauna. You can go caving in a cave that is above the village of Brest.

Other activities that are available in the park are cycling and horse riding. There is a mountaineering map available in local towns for the Ucka Nature Park. There are torrential waterfalls in the Upper Banina Creek that are worth seeing after a heavy rainfall or try exploring the canyons and transverse valleys of the park. The park contains twenty pools and there are a number of water wells. If you like gliding there is an Ucka airfield.

Subject:
Postovani,
molim nekoliko podataka o nacionalnom parku Ucka
putovanja neophodan,
Puno pozdrava,
Miroslav
